Asbestos

If work is required in buildings built before 2000, an appropriate asbestos survey must be obtained from the Client before any works commence.

Where Lovell commission asbestos surveys, only competent asbestos surveyors are to be used to identify location and type of asbestos containing materials in our workplaces.

All work must be carried out under strictly controlled conditions by registered, competent contractors only.

Risk assessment and safe systems of work must be in place before works commence. The risk assessment is to be reviewed in accordance with our RAMS review process.

All workers involved in working with or removal of asbestos must be appropriately trained and competent.

If asbestos is identified as licensable, the licence from the HSE must be in place before work commences unless special dispensation has been granted.

Asbestos must be disposed of in accordance with prevailing waste regulations and all required documentation is to be obtained and retained.

If workers unexpectedly come across or unearth potential asbestos containing material during their works work must stop immediately, and line management informed. A competent contractor must be engaged to risk assess the situation and act accordingly. Refer to the Asbestos in soil guidance on our SharePoint page for further guidance.

Analysis and clearance testing must be carried out by UKAS accredited organisations.

Any worker liable to disturb asbestos during their day-to-day work is to receive appropriate awareness training annually to enable them to protect themselves and others.

All workers involved in working with or removal of asbestos must be appropriately trained (non-licensable and/or licensable) and competent.
