Heaters and cooking appliances

Heaters in temporary buildings must be fixed above floor level, fitted with metal guards, and maintained. Coat stands and drying racks must be positioned safely away from heaters.

Use 110v electric heaters with safety features for heating or drying buildings under construction. If gas heaters are necessary, a risk assessment and hot works permit are required.

Heaters must be securely placed away from flammable materials, provided with ventilation, and not left unattended. Regular monitoring and prompt issue resolution are essential.

Cooking appliances must be properly installed with adequate ventilation. Microwave ovens are preferred, but if not possible, use electrical or gas cookers.

Countertop deep fat fryers are prohibited; commercial fryers require a kitchen fire suppression system and cleaning protocols.
