High rise construction
High rise construction projects must have a specific fire risk assessment conducted by a competent person in consultation with the fire and rescue service before work exceeds mechanical rescue height.
Fire doors with self-closers must protect escape stairs, and at least one staircase should be designated for firefighting.
Firefighting lifts must be operational early in the project.
Buildings are to be horizontally compartmented every five floors to prevent smoke and flame spread, using temporary firestopping materials until permanent installations are complete.
All openings must be closed off, and temporary firestopping must be replaced after working hours.
Atriums, stairways, and lift shafts must have doors with 30minute fire resistance. Early detection systems must be fitted and operational until the permanent system is live.
