Loading bays (includes crane landing bays)
Tube and fitting loading/landing bays to be constructed in accordance with prevailing TG20 compliance sheet or specific approved design. System scaffold loading bays to be constructed in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions.
Safe working load (SWL) of loading bays to be 10kN/M² unless informed otherwise.
Loading bays shall be fitted with double guardrail up and over scaffold loading bay gates that when open prevent access to the loading platform during loading operations, and fully protect operatives from the exposed edge and prevent falls of operatives and/or materials when closed.
Loading bay gates are to be fully meshed and fitted in accordance with manufacturers assembly instructions - the use of brickguards on loading bay gates is not permitted.
Falling object protection on loading/landing bays is to be established using scaffold boards or compatible proprietary mesh guarding fitted in accordance with manufacturers’ assembly instructions. The use of brickguards on loading/landing bays for this purpose is strictly prohibited.
Loading bays must have signage to provide users with clear information regarding safe working loads which should be fitted at eye level of the telehandler operator, not the loading bay gate itself.
Suitable double guardrail edge protection is required to replace loading bay gates with suitable toe board protection and when raising the platform to the next working level.
